Hello, Dr. Sears,
Q: My friend's mom experienced a heart-breaking brain injury in September 2007 while in surgery for a simple double knee replacement. From my understanding, during surgery some bone fragments made their way towards her brain and caused the brain damage. Her family has tried all types of medical procedures to help her but to no avail. She has shown small improvements over the last few months but is still bed-ridden and not herself mentally. After reading your coal mining success story, I wanted to reach out to you to see if you thought high-dose Omega 3 fish oil treatments would help her mom.
Thank you so much, Joe
Dear Joe,
A: The bone fragments are probably causing constant inflammation making it difficult for the brain to heal. We used 15 grams of EPA and DHA for Randall McCloy (the coal miner). This represents two tablespoons of liquid ultra-refined fish oil per day. I would suggest starting at this dose mixed with 3-4 ounces of SeaHealth Plus.
