I strongly suggest you read the book While Science Sleeps to understand the potential danger of aspartame in causing inflammation due to formaldehyde generated from the metabolism of the sweetener. Other artificial sweeteners can cause changes in the gut microbes that may also cause increased inflammation.  It is pretty good sense to keep their intake to a bare minimum.
